By André de Waal

Global Professional Publishing (2012)

Is your company an HPO? Ask André de Waal, whose latest book, What Makes a High Performance Organization: Five Validated Factors of Competitive Advantage that Apply Worldwide, is just out from Global Professional Publishing.

This book shows companies and managers how to achieve better financial and non-financial results than their competitors over the next 5-10 years by transforming themselves into HPOs: High-Performance Organizations.

A High Performance Organization is defined as an organization that achieves financial and non-financial results that are exceedingly better than those of its peer group over a period of time of five years or more, by focusing in a disciplined way on that which really matters to the organization.

André has spent the past decade extensively researching this topic, examining 290 international studies of business high performance and excellence, and analyzing data in 50 countries involving over 1,470 profit, non-profit and government organizations, including a collection of numerous in-depth case studies of companies striving for high performance, representing nearly every continent. Insights from all these studies can be found within the pages of this book.

Using this research, he has been able to create the first ever scientifically validated HPO Framework, including development and practice of this HPO Framework tool on 200 organizations since 2007, both profit and non-profit, even as his research goes on. His insightful conclusions from this work coupled with his intensive research has proven crucial for management decision-makers seeking to dramatically improve their companies.

Now is an important time for organizations. Though the economy has been picking up, growth will continue to be slow for many years to come. This book makes it possible for a company to accelerate its growth.

Also, customers worldwide have been growing more demanding and vocal especially as complaints about an organization can now spread like wildfire on the Internet. Thus becoming an HPO ensures a company stays competitive and maintains high levels of customer satisfaction.

André is Academic Director of the HPO Center and an Associate Professor High Performance Organizations at the Maastricht School of Management. As an independent boardroom advisor and researcher, his consulting clients span five continents in his quest to address performance management and high performance issues. André has been selected as one of the Top Ten Dutch Masters in Management, thinkers who have influenced management in The Netherlands the most in the past decade.
